The History of Troas
The Troas Group took its name from an extinct Greek city on the Aegean Sea near the northern tip of Turkey’s western coast. Formally named Alexandria Troas, the city was an important sea and land port for the area. Paul visited Troas six times during his missionary journeys. During his second journey, Troas is where Paul saw a vision of a man from Macedonia pleading “come over and help us” Acts 16: 8-12.
The Troas Group founder and president, William Byrd heard a call for help as well while his three children were attending a private Christian school. In 1999, he discovered his children’s school had little or no planning in place should a crisis arise. He also found his school was not alone in their complacency. It was then he began consulting with Christian and private schools through seminar, vulnerability assessments, and providing assistance in writing crisis management plans.
Currently, The Troas Group staff possesses almost seventy years of experience from the military, law enforcement, intelligence, and S.W.A.T. disciplines. This experience also includes ten years of history working directly with Christian and private schools.
